Brainpop is an amazing cross-curricular site with resources for teachers and parents. It offers multiple activities for Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, Arts and Music, Health and technology. Each topic offers a description of the topic, along with kid friendly movies to explain the topic. For example under the Technology topic, there is a section on MP3. The movie, in cartoon format, details what MP3 is and how the files are make and why we use MP3. In the topic there is also a place for students to experiment with “Bob the ex-lab Rat”. This allows students to conduct hands on multimedia experiments.
There are free topics open for all to use, or you can sign up for a free 5 day trial to see if you would like the benefits of a full subscription. One of the benefits of being a teacher that I found makes me want to highly recommend this site is that if you contact BrainPop, they offer teachers a 30 day free trial.
There is very little I dislike about BrainPop. While at first I considered the home page to be busy, it is actually well laid out and easy to navigate.
This site is currently being use at all grade levels in various curricular areas in my school, and I highly recommend this site for all educators.
